Professor PhD. Gheorghe Popa is the President of Romanian Forensic Scientists Association, author of seven inventions/innovations, PhD. supervisor in forensic science, author/co-author/coordinator of 14 books (university courses, monographs), author of 90 articles, works presented at national and international scientific events. He is editor-in-chief of the Romanian Journal of Forensic Science (RO şi EN), edited by the Romanian Forensic Scientists Association.

He is professor at Faculty of Law, Romanian-American University of Bucharest and PhD. Supervisor at the “Titu Maiorescu” University of Bucharest Doctoral School of Law. Together with the management of the West University of Timişoara, he created in 2023, within the Faculty of Chemistry, Biology, Geography, the first undergraduate study program "Applied sciences in forensics".

He is an doctor honoris causa of the University "B.P. Haşdeu" from Cahul, Republic of Moldova.

He is a forensic expert authorized by the Ministry of Justice in the fields of: writing and signature expertise, technical expertise of documents, dactyloscopic expertise of palm and plant marks, ballistic expertise of weapons and ammunition, expertise of traces created by beings. For 32 years he worked in the Police holding important positions: Director of the Forensic Science Institute, Rector of the Police Academy, Deputy Chief of the Romanian Police, Chief of the Romanian Police.

For the results obtained in the field of scientific research, in 2006, the newspaper "Cotidianul" nominated him among the top 50 personalities of Romania. He received three decorations from the Presidency of Romania.
